IMAGE DESCRIPTION:

This is a 360-degree shot of the inside of one of my original architectural
designs. I have designed a few houses as a hobby, and then modeled them in
Povray. The house is a full 3-D model, and not just a "stage set." I can set
any camera to look anywhere. This is a Hobby that goes in bursts, where I will
get in a mood, and work endlessly on a design, and then not touch it for six
months or more. So when I say this design has roots going back to 1999 or
so... you all know. In all honesty, this competition came about six months or
so too early for me. I had been going big guns of late, and actually adding
furniture, when I saw the ITRC was running Architecture as its theme. I had to
enter, even though the house is not in a finished form. For the record, any
items that are white with blue poka-dots (such as you will see in the "Pub
Area" in the lower right of the image) are placeholder objects, taking the
place of as yet unmodeled, but determined items. As well, the textures are
still evolving, undergoing cycles of refinement.

As to a description of what you are actually seeing in the image, here we go.
On the second floor, the first two doors to the left lead to guest bedrooms
which are separated by a guest bathroom. The balcony/hallway/Library (green
walls) lead to the right to a Master suite (first door to the right of the
Artificial Palm). On the tiered first floor, to the right of the Clock, is the
Kitchen (Sea Green Walls) and breakfast nook and out of sight pantry. The
formal dining room (Lavender) with its "hedge" and large windows is a nice
place to take in a meal. Continuing to the right, is a half-bath (mostly
obscured by the stairs) and Entry Hall (red walls). The living room is
dominated by its 110" projection TV/Computer Monitor (Yes, boys and girls, the
Doom III party is at my house.) The Pub is an informal place to hang with my
friends, as is the Billiard Room. The Pool Area (split between the lower left
and right corners) has its own cabana (the thatched structure) housing a second
half bath supporting the barrel sauna, hot tub, and infinite-lap pool (mostly
visible in the glass roof above.)

DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED:

I have not yet found a modeler that works quite the way I do, so the entire
project is hand coded. Basically, box after box, placed with translates.
Although the 360-degree camera may induce a different perspective, the house is
mostly rectangular. I wish I could submit more than the one shot allowed here
(heck, I have 60 predefined cameras) to better show off the house. For
example, the guest bathroom is turning out slick, but here is forced to go
unrepresented. I love the fish tank at the top of the Entry hall/ Library
stairs. Again, it was obscured in interest for the best single overall view
When the whole house is finished, I plan on releasing what I can to the public
domain. Until then, I will entertain questions/requests on a case-by-case
basis. Compared to some of the POV wizards out there, a lot of what I do is
basic. But I also have a lot of experience in dealing with house modeling in
POV, so I am glad to share what I can. Feel free to ask questions or make
comments on this project. I would enjoy hearing from you.
