DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED:

I thought I was done when I submitted my other 3 images for this theme, but in
the last 3 days of the contest, more inspriation struck.

This image uses photons, media, and an area light. Surprisingly this scene only
takes about an hour to trace at 1024x768. I tried adding radiosity as well,
but it didn't really add much to the scene, it's also possible I didn't know
how to tweak the radiosity correctly.

My grandmother has one of these games and I spent many an hour playing with it
as a child. I wanted to model it, and hadn't planned of making a full blown
scene so quickly. I placed a light about 15 POV units away, but accidently set
the fade_distance=100, so the glare on the marbles was super bright. It
reminded me of the sun in Arizona, so I started in with the desert theme.

The sand is a height field made using POV patterns. There are two wood patterns
slightly out of sync with a little turbulence and overlayed wrinkles.

The hardest part was getting the marbles around the ring without having any
overlaps, and not placing each one by hand.
