IMAGE DESCRIPTION:

this depicts the conclusion of a chess game played one cold winter afternoon.
its kind of hard to see from this angle, but the board is set up with a rather
complex mate that i contrived for this scene. as you can tell from the garland
hanging from the window sill (and if you look really carefully at the calendar
on the wall), christmas is on the way.

DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED:

all objects in this scene were modeled by hand by me with the exception of the
three trees you can see out the window (those were made with treestorm). in
all, the scene consists of about 1.5 million polygons. it was rendered using 18
pass depth of field bluring.
