IMAGE DESCRIPTION:

A dramatic view of a combat scene between droids and... who? what?
We'll never know.
Maybe... :)

DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED:

That's not a good moment for a "Warfare" topic. Sick coincidence.
But.
The life (like a show) must go on.
And 3d is part of my life.

I always wanted to model a droid, but the modeling difficulties kept me away
from that
image. So, in a particular moment of my life, without Internet connection and
telephone,
I started modeling this scene.
The droid model took about 4 days of intense work (4 hours sessions, I
think...), but
the most part of the working time (20-30 days, not-so-intense work...) was spent
on
texturing, illumination, atmospherical, laser, particle effects,
camera-positioning
and z-blur plugin setup.
The modeling was principally based on extrusion and spinning. I also used some
skinned curves converted to mesh.

The smoke on the ground is a simple fog layer with cloud texture applied, the
smoke on
the big gun and the smoke from the wasted droid are particle systems with
halo-textured
material.

For the lasers I followed a tutorial from the Internet (don't remember the URI,
sorry,
use search on Blender forums with "laser" keyword) and used a straight line
subdivided,
with halo material applied to.

Most of the texture are imagemaps scanned and remaked with Gimp.

I hope we'll never need war anymore.
Peace is the word.

G.F.
