IMAGE DESCRIPTION:

It_s herd to tell, but the planet has a atmosphere extending about 2
pixels beyond the planet, and the stars point toward the planet.

DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED:

The planet is just two spheres, the hard part was macking a realistic
texture fot it. For the color map I used the cellular function and the mix
function as well as the wires function to create the polar ice cap. I used the
same type of cellular function for every component, changing only the upper and
lower limits. At first I tried to give the planet the apperance of city lights
by using a glow map, but this created white spots all over the planet .
The backdrop was created using Bryce 2, I used the cosmic 3d texture as
an ambiace map and turned the specularity up to the limit, when this texture
was wraped onto a sphere it created the nebula effect I was after. Then I but
behind that an infinate plane of stars. Next I used the rendered picture as a
texture map and put it on a properly shaped terrian in order to create the
warped effect which makes the picture seem to point toward the stars.
The final rendering was done in Ray Deram so that I could put in the
lense flare. In order to make the planet visible through the clouds, I hade to
turn _Light through Transparencies_ on , this combined with the complicated
textures on the two spheres created a long render time.
