IMAGE DESCRIPTION:

Okay this is my second submission. I had forgotten about
raytracing and gotten on with my life when the comments were finally
out on the Glass competition. And to my shock, my image recieved
some favoriable comments. Well, that re-lit the fire under my butt
and I went to work on this.
I at first thought that school of fish would be original. But
after reading all the stuff on the mailing list, I'd say no. What we have here
is a school of fish. Graduating. They're even wearing the little caps with
tassels. One fish is giving a speech. A shark is prowling in the background
for two reasons. First, to offer his congratulations in the only
way he knows how. Second, cuz I though it would look cool and fill in
the gap up in that part of the image.
I think I'm getting better at this.
And please, comments really really make my day. Just put anything
down, even if you just type, "Anything. There, happy?" I'm a comments
hound.

DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED:

     Okay, item by item:

Seaweed: I used the wonderful and talented Sonya's tree utility
to make the seaweed. First, I stripped the trees of the leaves, and
we all know how much that hurts. Then I gave the bark a green texture
and made it really really bumpy. Then I copied, rotated, translated and
scaled three more and mixed them all up to get the effect I wanted.
     It worked.

The Stage: The stage is just a bunch of Rectangles with a
wood texture. The Curtain is a blue box all bumpy.

The Podium: A rock made with John Beal's Bumpyorbs. The white
texture was given so that it would stand out.

The Shark: Actually, I got this file off the web. I thought
that borrowing it in this case is okay because 1.) It is nothing
more than a shadow. 2.) It is far from the central image. 3.) I'm
admitting that it's borrowed, which is more than some people seem to
feel is necessary.

The Boulders: Same as the podium with a darker texture.

The Fish: All put together with POV SB. Just squashed cones
and some spheres. And yes they look goofy. Live with it. I can.

The Caps: Again, POV SB. The end of the tassel is a cone
so that it looks better.

Lighting: I used a couple of spotlights and an area light
and it worked out just like I'd hoped. Believe me, I played with
the lighting a lot.

Atmosphere: This was tricky. Without the atmosphere, the scene
is way way way too clear. I had to play for a while until I could get the
atmosphere to accomplish three things:
1.) Make it murky, like water.
2.) Make the spotlights show up.
3.) Make the shark a sillouette.
        Got it.
