IMAGE DESCRIPTION:
A school bus hurriedly speeds by a Red Giant as it drops
out of hyperspace. Rushing to arrive on time at the rendezvous point. To
the dismay of the captain, the convoy has already departed. The sound of
anxious students can be heard through the bulkhead as they too realize that
they are no longer under the protection of the fleet. Suddenly...

DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED:
When I started this image, I knew
that I wanted a theme that incorporated space, as well as school, this was a
space station, the remains of which you can still see there. The station
began to evolve, and soon it had a cockpit rather than living quarters,
boosters instead of station keeping thrusters, and then drives rather than
boosters. A ship was born! The sun started as a nova. It was fun to try to
get different effects from the halo. It also evolved into a red giant as I
played with scaling, position and other factors, it turned red on me, I liked
it, I kept it. For the stars, I give credit to Jeff Burton who created the
"stars.inc". The star field is a hollow sphere with a radius of 200000 units
and textured with the stars1 pattern. The texture is scaled by 10000 so the
stars would show up with a low AA value. I used windows Paint to create
image maps for the fuel tanks and solar panels, but I probably could have
gotten away without either of them, it makes for a nice scene. Lview pro was
used in viewing the final images and rotating and converting the image maps to
the required file formats. Finally I must give credit to the subscribers of
the IRTC mailing list, for their patience with my endless rambling questions
and whining. :) Happy Tracing! (:
