To import a genealogy means simply to load a genealogy in
Ancestris.
Ancestris is a software that reads a file in text format with an
architecture defined by the Gedcom standard (international standard
for information exchange between genealogy softwares). Many
softwares don't respect scrupulously this standard (use of
installations, specific parameters,...).
Consequence: the loss of information during exchanges between
genealogists. That's the reason why we decide to make Ancestris
totally compliant with the gedcom specifications. Ancestris is
100% Gedcom!
To import a genealogy in Ancestris, two situations:
Your
software is capable of exporting data to Gedcom format. Ancestris
will read them without problems.
Your
software is unable to export your data to Gedcom format, except
to create a « perfume » of a Gedcom format, you must retype all
your data directly in Ancestris.
Even in the first situation, since most softwares only respect Gedcom standard partially, your original file is probably not perfect. This is where you really start to appreciate Ancestris:
Ancestris
will read your file, even if it is not Gedcom compliant.
Ancestris
specific tools were designed to allow the correction of certain
errors of other softwares. We cannot correct everything, but will
surely fix most of them.
